Clothes Recycling Video - looping DVD 28 min. 1996

On the streets of South London, the artist climbs inside a series of clothes recycling containers. Life on the outside continues until, several minutes later the artist emerges wearing a new set of clothes found inside the container. The initial set of clothes worn corresponds to the final set retrieved, making the video an endless, recycled loop. At times during the video it might seem like nothing is happening, which echoes the fact that, unless we linger in 'real time', we often miss out on underlying patterns of reality. The work also explores the social concept of recycling and how clothing defines identity. The video is genarally displayed on a monitor in an 'informational' way. A non-captive or passing audience might thus discover the action in the video by accident.
